Boxing: Indian girls win 5 gold in Youth World Championship.
Indian girls dominated their dominance, winning the historic breakthrough by winning 5 gold medals on the last day of the AIBA Young Women’s World Boxing Championship held here on Sunday. Neetu, Jyoti, Sakshi, Ankushita Boro and Shashi Chopra won gold for India. Neetu won gold in lightweight event while Jyoti bettered in the flywheat. In the same way, Sakshi secured first place in the Bentmavet class. Shashi won gold in the featherweight category and Ankushita won the lightweight category.
Neetu beat Kazakhstan’s Jhajirra Urakbayeva 5-0 in the finals. Jyoti, on the other hand, defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Malkanchova by the same margin and gave her team a second gold. In the finals of Bantam Wet, Sakshi defeated England’s Eve Jane Smith 3-2 in a tough match, while Sheshi defeated Nagok Jong Hong of Vietnam 4-1 in Featherweight.
Local player Ankushita defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Dainik 4-1 in the final. Ankushita was chosen as the best boxer of the tournament. Jyoti has also qualified for the Youth Olympics to be held in Argentina in 2018. India also got two silver in this championship. Indian Boxing Federation President Ajay Singh has announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh each for each player who wins the medal.
