Health is more valuable than money. Healthy person remains in a state of bliss and happiness.

When we are ill or we do not want to play or work, our bad health robs us of sound sleep and appetite. Life becomes a burden for one, who is constantly ailing. He feels tired of life, always complaining about one thing or the other.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking about Ayurveda vs Allopathy?

Most of you will come up with the answer that Allopathic treatment will provide much faster recovery when compared to Ayurvedic treatments.

Well, that’s true to some extent as Ayurvedic medicines provide relatively slow but permanent relief, but  choosing the right kind of treatment is what really matters.

In Ayurveda the focus is on prevention of disease and to find the root cause to bring the body back into balance rather than the focus on treating symptoms with interventions as in Allopathic medicine.

Why do you love fast modes of transportation?

Most probably because you can reach your destination faster.

That’s what that sets Allopathy really apart from that of Ayurveda.

If we set aside the side effects of Allopathy medicines, going to an  Allopathy doctor is the best thing to do in case of an emergency.

According to Ayurveda, every root, plant, bark, leaf found on this planet has medicinal value and as a result of this belief, Ayurveda treats the body as a whole.

Ayurveda deals with getting rid of the disease permanently and also suggests a suitable lifestyle for improving your overall health, and an icing on the cake is that there are no side effects associated with it as Ayurvedic medicines are made up of natural herbs and other extracts.

This is what that sets Ayurveda really apart from that of Allopathy, where only a certain part of the body is concentrated based on the disease and the objective is to provide instant relief by destroying the germs, virus etc that caused the sickness.

The problem with this approach is that it doesn’t ensure that the disease will permanently disappear.

As Ayurveda focuses on the originating cause to cure the affected area and related system of our body, you’ll also have to maintain a healthy lifestyle and control what you consume to get the most out of the treatment.

I know that controlling what you consume sounds difficult, but following this not only ensures a speedy recovery but also rejuvenates your mind, body, and soul and you’ll end up feeling like a God.

Well, the truth is that it works.

Many ayurvedic drugs have been found far superior to their allopathic counterparts. Modern medicine many times overlook the fact that when two patients with similar ailment are given same medicines, it need not have the same effect on both of them. Because, each disease is a psychosomatic malady which needs individualistic treatment, said Ravi Bapat, former head of surgical gastroenterology at KEM Hospital, Mumbai, and vice-chancellor of Navi Mumbai-based Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences.

Elaborating on the well-documented evidences of ayurvedic drugs in treating various diseases, Bapat said,

“There has been convincing experimental evidence that Tinispora Cordifolia (Gulvel) increases immunity in cancer and tuberculosis patients. A study carried out by us has found that ayurvedic drugs are much superior to other immune stimulants available in the market. Besides, our research, long ago, had conclusively proved that Gavel did not just treat the symptoms of jaundice but also cured it as much as it helped the patient develop immures against it. Plus, it did not have any toxic effect.”

Bapat and his team had also made a systematic study of the effects of many other ayurvedic drugs and proved them superior to their allopathic counterparts.

“We have found that the long-term outcome of Ksharasootra (K-Sutra) was far better in the treatment of Fistula and Piles than surgery, which allopathy recommends.

Speaking about his study conducted in the use of leeches in the treatment of varicose veins, the abnormally swollen and tortuous veins, Bapat said,

“By conducting experimentally verifiable and documented studies, we have showed that leeches mainly suckles the venous blood (the impure blood that flows towards the lungs) and not the arterial blood (the pure blood, which is pumped by the heart to various organs), of the patient.”

“Use of leeches was not only safer but faster and less painful. It decreased oedema (swelling) faster, and the healing was much better. Since then leech therapy has got a big boost,” said Bapat,
