2.0 box office collection Day 1: Rajinikanth-Akshay film off to a great start
2.0 Box Office Collections Day 1: S Shankar direction and sequel to Robot, 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, has marked its box office release with a bang on Thursday. The movie registered an occupancy of over 90 per cent in South while it registered an occupancy of around 30 per cent in Hindi belt largely due to delay in the opening of advance bookings.
Director Shankar’s pet project 2.0 opened to packed houses yesterday across the globe. Starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, the sci-fi film has released in over 10,500 screens, The film’s advance booking was started around a week before in overseas markets like the UK, the US, Australia and New Zeland among other countries.
Rajinikanth was seen in multiple avatars namely Dr. Vaseegaran, Chitti, 2.0 and 3.0. The film’s brilliant visual effects wowed the audience and it seems to be lurking in the audience to the theares.
The film took a thunderous opening at the box office and is on track to shatter several records. Rajinikanth’s 2.0 has collected a whopping Rs 2.64 crore in Chennai pushing Vijay’s Sarkar to the second place. Sarkar had earned 2.37 crore on its opening day. It is said that 2.0’s box office collection on its first day is an all-time highest opening a film has got in Chennai.

The film 2.0 has earned around Rs 59 lakhs ($83,720) from 35 screens in Australia. As per film critic and trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the film has grossed $282,967 from 258 Locs in the US till 9PM EST. The first of its kind Indian 3D film has earned Rs 11.11 lakhs ($15,920) in New Zealand from 18 screens. Just a few hours more and the final domestic and international figures will be out.
Reports suggest that the tickets have been sold out for the coming weekend and it is said that the box office collection will hit a new high. 2.0 is a story about harmful radiation that emits from the cellphone towers and the adverse effects it has on the birds.
